We joined Kalen and Jenell and their friends Ian and Haley on a trip to Yellowstone! I had been when I was much younger and had no idea what I was in for. Good and bad. First of all, I had no idea that when you are in yellowstone, the majority of the time you are driving. Sooo not fun with a 6 month old. The good part is, it is so worth it. I have never seen such a beautiful place in all my life. I was so impressed by the trees lining the road, the humongous yellowstone lake, the waterfalls, the prairies filled with buffalo herds, not to mention that geysers and animals. The first night it rained. The whole night. But we stayed very warm and dry- the best part was driving by the lake and river- everything was glistening. I really cannot believe such a place exists. Ok- enough about my yellowstone crush.
I guess the most important thing about the trip is the amount of animals we saw! They were everywhere. We left on the 4th of july and drove through wyoming and the tetons. Which were gorgeous but I didn't take a single picture. It wouldn't have done them justice. But here is benson. He did surprisingly well for an 8 hour drive.
Then suddenly we spotted these beauties on the side of the rode. There was a whole herd!
As soon as we got in the park we drove past these- female elk. They look more like camels to me.
And then a little later we saw this very large elk. I was surprised to see so many people out of their cars... didn't think that was allowed.
We barely made it to the campsite and I let benson out of his carseat. He was so done sitting in there.
It was sooo rainy- so Kalen used a tarp and hung them from the racks on our cars. It made a nice sitting place for benson. (merrill and loujean- hope you don't mind that we borrowed this chair for benson. It is already back in your garage!) Look what a happy camper!
Our dinner- enchiladas and apple cobbler. Oh boy did it hit the spot.

Is stayed with benson while he was sleeping in the car. Riley went with the others for "short" walk. 50 minutes later got back. I wasn't the happiest camper- but I guess it wasn't their fault. They were surrounded by buffalo on both sides of the trail and couldn't move...
They finally got back and we set off- only to be caught in a buffalo jam. Around 60 buffalo made their way through the parking lot, weaving in and out of cars. They totally own the place.
By the way, they make pig, snorty sounds. I didn't know that.
We climbed down three hundred and somethings stairs to see this incredible waterfall.
Another waterfall- a much easier walk to get to.
Then we saw two young black bears!
These are minerals. Weird.
On our way out of the park we stopped at these hot mineral pots. Really pretty colors.
Benson got a buffalo....and loves it.
