Remember how I mentioned that the Galant randomly wouldn't turn on the day after we got back from California? That we didn't ever see a check engine light? Or hear any weird noises? Or explosions? Well, it's been all bad news since then. We had it towed to a mechanic in Provo who found that the timing belt had shredded. Little did that mechanic know, the timing belt and water pump had been replaced almost exactly a year before. (They are supposed to last 100,000 miles....)He then said it would cost around $1000 to repair. Riley's dad graciously towed the car up to West Jordan for a long stay with their mechanic. We got the parts and he fixed it for 1/4 the cost. Sadly... that isn't the end. The car runs but not very well... After scoping the engine he found that a piston in the engine has been chipped. Something that can basically only be fixed with a whole new (or used) engine. We aren't sure the car is worth it... so this might be goodbye. But don't worry everyone, we are just so grateful that we made it back to Utah safely and without a single problem!! (I would have been fine if it had broken down and we had to stay in California for another 2-16 weeks. Disneyland.... Beach.... Another cruise... Can you tell I'm already sick of working this summer?)
The good news is, Riley's car passed safety and emissions!!! We really aren't sure how, but we are extremely grateful!! Oh and this really hasn't effected our happiness as newlyweds, so don't worry :)
I'll post pictures of the apartment tonight!
